One of Breitling's major innovations is the automatic chronograph. This invention debuted in the 1969 Basel fair and was greeted as a big step forward by the entire industry. It utilized a balance wheel and a micro rotor to wind the movement, as opposed to the previous manual winding.

The first Breitling Navitimer watch was introduced in 1952 (Breitling Navitimer 806) and quickly gained status as the number one navigational watch. From the Windrider series the Breitling Chronomat has been the most sought after model on the pre-owned market but the Wings Automatic, CrossWind, HeadWind, Callisto and Blackbird are also very popular. The Professional series contain Breitling Emergency, Aerospace, Hercules and H-series. From the Aeromarine series, Breitling M1, Seawolf, Superocean, Colt and Chrono Avenger ar very popular Breitling vintage watches. Also, the slightly more expensive Breitling for Bentley watches are sought after, containg amongst others the Bentley 6.75, GT and Bentley LeMans.
